Impartial Judge, Impartial Savior

Impartial Judge, Impartial Savior

For there is no partiality with God.

Romans 2:11

Ephesians 6:5-9

It's hard to imagine an impartial world. We make partial choices continually in our life--spouse, friends, foods, vocations, clothing, and many others. To say we are partial to this or that is not wrong--except in one way: how we treat people. The Bible says that, with God, "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus." And we are to view people with the same impartiality as God.

The Bible also says that God will judge impartially in the last day. That is, God's standard of righteousness will be applied to every human being (2 Timothy 4:8; 1 Peter 2:23). We can either be judged in Christ on the basis of His righteousness or on the basis of our own. God can apply the same strict standard in judging because He has made the same universal offer of salvation to all: "Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely" (Revelation 22:17b). All will be judged, and all are offered an escape from judgment by being hidden in Christ.

Since none are righteous on their own (Romans 3:10-18), all should accept the gift of Christ's righteousness today.

To those whom God finds impenitent sinners He will be found an implacable Judge.

Matthew Henry
