BE PATIENT Tuesday – June 22, 2010

"They traveled from Mount Hor along the route to the Red Sea, to go around Edom. But the people grew impatient on the way” – Numbers 21:4

In 1989, the world was shocked by the damage of the Exxon Valdez. The tanker leaked 10.8 million gallons into Alaska’s Prince William Sound. One person who decided to do something was actor Kevin Costner. Kevin’s brother Dan was a scientist and the two purchased a company called Ocean Therapy Solutions in 1995.
For the next 15 years, the Costners developed an oil water separator that could extract 210,000 gallons of oil a day from water.
The company built 32 oil separating machines that are sophisticated centrifuge devices. But there was little interest from both industry and the government. The Exxon Valdez was becoming history in many people’s minds. However, Kevin and Dan knew their patience would one day be recognized.
Then in June 2010, following the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, British Petroleum asked the Costners to deploy their 32 oil separating machines. After years of preparation, Kevin said of his product: “I just am really happy that this has come to the light of day. I'm very sad about why it is, but this is why it was developed, and like anything that we all face as a group, we face it together.”

Patience is never easy, but it is necessary. Today in prayer, give any impatience you may have to Christ and know that through patience He is making you more like Him.

“It is in attempting to reach the top at a single leap that so much misery is caused in the world.” – John Bradley

God’s Word: “The end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride.” – Ecclesiastes 7:8
