Several years ago during the Y2-K hysteria, some people wondered if the world was about to end because of the turning of the calendar. We were entering a new millennium, a once-in-a-thousand-years occurrence.

The Bible teaches that a future millennium will highlight the reign of Christ for one thousand years. During this time, Satan will be bound and the world will enjoy a time of tranquility that defies history. The millennial reign of Christ is necessary to reward the people of God, to respond to the prayer Jesus taught us to pray that God's kingdom would come, to redeem the creation, and to fulfill all the promises made to Israel throughout the unfolding prophecies of the Old Testament. It will be a time of peace, prosperity, purity, perpetual health, and personal joy.

Perhaps you don't understand all the aspects of the coming Millennium, but here's the key thought--and it should encourage us every day: "For the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea" (Isaiah 11:9).

Lord, grant it!

The Bible says we can have kingdom joy now as Christ is made the king of our life. And someday we will have it perfectly in the millennium when the joy of the Lord will be on the face of all.
