Heavenly Occupation

Everyone who uses the Internet has mistakenly believed erroneous information received in an unsolicited email. Such false information gets forwarded from user to user until, after years or even months, it attains the status of "urban legend"--a fictitious body of information accepted as truth. There are even websites dedicated to identifying urban legends--separating fact from fiction.

Urban legends aren't only on the Internet--they exist in Christendom as well, or at least among those who have a faulty understanding of the faith. One of the myths is about heaven--that it will be boring; that the redeemed will float around in white robes, perch on clouds, and play harps for eternity. That whole idea is wrong. While the Bible doesn't say exactly what the daily activities in heaven will be, we know that they will be characterized by Adam's and Eve's short life in Eden: activity, responsibility, accountability, and productivity.

Heaven is not a vacation resort. It is where redeemed human beings will manifest the potential and destiny for which they were created--to the glory of God.

Wisdom opens the eyes both to the glories of heaven and to the hollowness of earth.
