TRUE HUMILITY Tuesday - August 17, 2010

“to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men.” – Titus 3:2

In 1809, missionary to China Robert Morrison wrote to his friends in England asking for an assistant. In response, 23-year-old William Milne from Aberdeenshire, Scotland offered himself. After an interview, the members of the board of the London Missionary Society decided William was an earnest Christian, but he was too rough and unpolished and they gave him this decision: "We do not think you fit to be a missionary, but if you would like to go out as a servant to the missionary, we will send you."
After hearing this answer, Milne replied, "Well, sir, if the gentlemen don't think me fit to be a missionary, I will go as a servant. I am willing to be a hewer of wood and a drawer of water or do anything to help the cause of my Heavenly Master."
He was sent out as a servant, but three years later Milne was commissioned a missionary and was one of the Christian leaders in nineteenth century China.

In all that we do, we need to remove our pride and seek to be humble servants of Jesus Christ. Today in prayer, praise the Lord for His humble example on earth and seek to humbly follow Him.

“Humility is strong, not bold; quiet, not speechless; sure, not arrogant.” – Estelle Smith

God’s Word: “He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” – Micah 6:8
