Ultimate Justice

The Innocence Project was formed by two attorneys in 1992 to exonerate the innocent using post-conviction DNA testing. To date 252 people have been proven innocent and released from prison--including 17 who were on death row. DNA technology and the Innocence Project have called into question the very notions of justice in the American judicial system.

Given new technologies like DNA matching, what is the likelihood that innocent people, convicted of capital crimes, were put to death wrongfully? Only God knows, of course, and in Him is our only hope for true justice in life and in eternity. This was a lesson that Job had to slowly learn, applying the principle found later in Isaiah's writings: "Blessed are all those who wait for Him." God's first act of justice was to give His Son to die in the place of guilty humans, available to all who will accept His offer. But then, in eternity, God will balance the scales of justice for a final time. Every injustice will be rectified, every wrong made right.

If you have suffered unjustly, put your hope in God. No one can take away the innocence that God knows is yours.

God is not always a God of immediate justice, but He is a God of ultimate justice.
