DOING THE WILL OF GOD

DOING THE WILL OF GOD                                  Wednesday - October 13, 2010

“During the days of Jesus' life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered” – Hebrews 5:7-8

In 1939, Dr. Baker James Cauthen was the pastor of Travis Avenue Baptist Church in Ft. Worth, Texas. It was a large, thriving church and Baker was recognized as one of the brightest preachers in America. He was also on the faculty of Southwestern Seminary. But Baker felt the Lord’s calling him to China to preach. It was a dangerous time, Japan had just invaded China and many missionaries were leaving the country.
Before he left for China, Baker shared with his friend Bill Howse: "Bill, many people are making a lot out of what we are trying to do, but for us it's simply the will of God.  It's such a good feeling that I can say that if our ship is bombed in Hong Kong harbor and we never set foot on Chinese soil, I will have a sense of completeness because I will have been doing the will of God for me."

There is only one place we should seek, to always be in the will of God. Today in prayer, confess any sin of disobedience and seek to follow Christ in all that you do.

“Our gratitude to God can be expressed only in loving, humble obedience to his will.” – Batsell Barrett Baxter

God’s Word: “And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross!” – Philippians 2:8
