DO NOT BE QUICK TEMPERED Thursday - August 5, 2010

“Since an overseer is entrusted with God's work, he must be blameless--not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain.” – Titus 1:7

Samuel Kinison was born in Yakima, Washington and grew up in Peoria, Illinois. Both his mother and father were Pentecostal preachers. He followed in his father's footsteps as a Pentecostal preacher and attended Pinecrest Bible Training Center in Salisbury Center, New York. Kinison’s preaching was characterized as "fire and brimstone" style. He would often shout in anger at his congregation.
On one occasion, in a bid to urge his congregants to fill the collection plate, Kinison, from his pulpit, produced a .38 pistol and fired a shot at the church's ceiling! His quick temper wore on congregations and he began preaching less often. He went through a divorce, left the ministry and ended up being a stand-up comedian. At age 38, he died in a car accident with traces of drugs in his bloodstream.

The Lord desires that we would be self-controlled, not quick-tempered. Today in prayer, give the Lord any anger in your life and receive His peace.

“Men are like steel. When they lose their temper, they lose their worth.” – Chuck Norris

God’s Word: “Better a patient man than a warrior, a man who controls his temper than one who takes a city.” – Proverbs 16:32
