THE HOPE OF ETERNAL LIFE Monday - August 2, 2010

“a faith and knowledge resting on the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time” – Titus 1:2

Anthony Martin is an escape artist, skydiver and evangelist. He decided to combine those passions to share Christ with others. On July 2010, Martin jumped from an airplane wearing handcuffs that were locked to a chain draped around his neck and connected to leather cuffs fastened above each elbow.
He did the stunt at the Dayton, Ohio airport to illustrate that "Skydivers deal with mortality every day."
Martin's plane took off and reached 13,500 feet. The 44-year-old Martin was helped to the plane's door and then he fell from a sitting-back position. He began rapidly spinning, as he appeared to struggle with the lock for 25 seconds, before becoming free, and safely deploying his parachute. Martin said it was disorienting to try to focus on his hands while spinning. He will use the video of the jump as a tool in his ministry.
Martin said he used his escape as a metaphor for escaping eternal death through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.

All of us were falling out of control toward eternal death until Christ came into our lives and unlocked us from our sin. Through the Lord’s shed blood, we are free and have eternal life in Him. Today in prayer, praise the Lord that in Him we have been saved from certain death and have eternal life.

“Once a man is united to God, how could he not live forever?” – C.S. Lewis

“Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.” – John 3:14-15
