BE FAITHFUL Wednesday - July 28, 2010

“So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter.” – 2 Thessalonians 2:15

Dr. Peter Parker of Framingham, Massachusetts received his M.D. and a degree in theology from Yale University in 1834. The following year, he became the protestant medical missionary to China.
Within the next year, he helped open the Ophthalmic Hospital at Canton. Parker specialized in treating diseases of the eye, particularly cataracts, but also performed general surgical operations including the removal of tumors. He is probably best known for the introduction of anesthesia to China in the form of sulphuric ether.
But Parker did not abandon his degree in theology. Each Sunday, he led Protestant services in the hospital. So popular was his messages that people lined up on Saturday night to attend Sunday Services. Mission experts credit Parker’s faithful service to the Lord as a key person that opened up China to Christianity.

The Lord has a plan for you. Be faithful, stand firm and keep following Jesus. Today in prayer, ask the Lord that you may be faithful in following Him in all your ways and in all of your days.

“The faithful person lives constantly with God.” – Clement of Alexandria

God’s Word: “To the faithful you show yourself faithful, to the blameless you show yourself blameless” – Psalm 18:25
