BE HOLY Thursday – July 15, 2010

“For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life.” – 1 Thessalonians 4:7

Reginald Fessenden, a 33-year-old university professor and former chief chemist for Thomas Edison, created history on December 24, 1906. From his laboratory in Brant Rock, Massachusetts, Fessenden spoke into a microphone and the first audio radio program was broadcast. On that Christmas Eve, he read from the gospel of Luke: "And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed," he began in a clear, strong voice, hoping he was reaching across the distances.
His program also included Fessenden playing the violin the song “O Holy Night.”
After the program, there was silence. Fessenden did not know if his program had been heard or not. Then reports began coming in from several hundred miles away. Morse Code operators had indeed heard his program. It had interrupted the normal hum of telegraph dots and dashes. The first radio program was a unique sound that was elevated above all the other noise in the world.

The Lord has called us out of this world to be holy as He is Holy. We are to be a different voice than the voice of this world. Today in prayer, praise the Lord that we are called to be holy and look to Jesus to live a pure and holy life.

“Remember your ultimate purpose, and when you set yourself to your day’s work or approach any activity in the world, let Holiness to the Lord be written upon your hearts in all that you do.” – Richard Baxter

God’s Word: “But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: ‘Be holy, because I am holy.’” – 1 Peter 1:15-16
