BEWARE OF THE LAWLESS Tuesday - July 27, 2010

On the night of June 24, 2010, Ryan Hamilton knocked on the door a woman in Boise, Idaho. Hamilton identified himself as a police officer and told the woman she was under arrest. The woman had an outstanding an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. Hamilton handcuffed her and drove her to jail.
The problem was Hamilton was not a law enforcement officer or a registered bounty hunter.
"The woman who was arrested does tell police she didn't want to go with that guy,” said Lynn Hightower, spokeswoman of the Boise Police Department. “She did have her suspicions. Yes, he had a gun and was wearing a Kevlar vest but there was no official markings on that police car, he had no official identification which raised her suspicions."
Hamilton was arrested and charged with unlawful exercise of functions of police officers. "What he's accused of doing is falsely using powers that are given to police and that is a very serious violation of the public's trust," said Hightower.
